Cosmetic Impressions We were very impressed with this spider on many levels.
The paint looks excellent and appears to be original.
No road rash on the wheels, door dings, or scratches to mar its overall appearance.
No rust.
The interior is particularly nice.
Even the suede/leather seats look relatively fresh, and reflect its very low original miles.
Remember, this Spider Veloce is almost 25 years old.
No smells or odors, previously owned by a non-smoker.
A collector would make the argument that a clean original spider is more valuable than a restoration.
We will leave that debate to the customer, as we are offering this car in either configuration.
Bringing the car to elite status with Avanzato full mechanical and cosmetic review will add approximately $20K to the price.
This upgrade path is obviously is up to you.
Driving Impressions There are few classic cars on the road that bring the contemporary driving refinement and reliability of this design.
Air conditioning, power windows, power steering, and a driver side air-bag were all luxury options back in the late 80's and early 90's.
The interior is far from spartan, and the convenience options are appreciated.
The factory hard top is also a valuable feature, that is very hard to find.
Much nicer than the aftermarket version, it features a rear defroster.
During our 200 mile test loop, the car behaved flawlessly.
No overheating or peculiar habits.
Smooth acceleration, solid braking and crisp handling.
There is a great deal to like and appreciate with this lovely spider.
Vintage feel with a nod toward the new millennium.
Market Report The obvious question is--where are the comparable spiders? Objectively, there are very few rust free, original S3 spiders left.
Red and tan is by far the most sought after color combination--and known as the Italian standard.
The factory hard top conservatively adds about $1500 to the car's value.
Our Avanzato (advanced) models can top $50K depending on options, although most fall in the $40-$45K range.
In that context, an original 22K mile spider with service records in mint condition should bring in the $25K range without issue.
